Operations & Maintenance

Remote monitoring, scheduled inspections and reactive maintenance for commercial solar installations across the UK.

Overview

Protect your solar investment with ongoing care

A commercial solar installation is a long-term asset. Without proper monitoring and maintenance, performance can degrade unnoticed — reducing energy generation, increasing payback periods and potentially voiding manufacturer warranties. Most commercial solar systems lose between 0.5% and 1% of output per year through natural degradation alone. Undetected faults, soiling and equipment failures can accelerate this significantly.

KLY Energy delivers structured operations and maintenance programmes for commercial solar installations of all sizes. Combining continuous remote monitoring with scheduled physical inspections and reactive fault response, our O&M service ensures your system generates at its maximum potential throughout its operational life.

Capabilities

Comprehensive system care

Real-time monitoring

Continuous performance tracking at string and inverter level, with automated alerts for underperformance, communication failures and fault codes. Monitoring dashboards provide clear visibility of energy generation, system health and historical trends — accessible to you at any time.

Scheduled inspections

Annual or biannual physical inspections covering panels, wiring, mounting systems, inverters and switchgear. Thermal imaging identifies hotspots and connection faults invisible to the naked eye. Every inspection produces a detailed report with findings, photographs and recommended actions.

Reactive fault response

When faults are detected — whether through monitoring alerts or physical inspection — KLY Energy manages the resolution process. Software-resolvable issues are addressed remotely. Physical faults are attended on-site with clear response timeframes and full documentation of all remedial work.

Expertise

Common issues we identify and resolve

Equipment faults

Inverter failures, tripped RCDs, damaged isolators and cable degradation are among the most common causes of generation loss. Remote monitoring catches most electrical faults within hours, and scheduled inspections identify physical wear before it causes downtime.

Panel soiling and shading

Dirt, moss, bird droppings and new vegetation growth can reduce panel output by 5% to 25% depending on severity. Inspections identify soiling levels and shading changes, with cleaning scheduled as needed to restore performance.

Performance degradation

All solar panels degrade over time, but abnormal degradation — caused by micro-cracks, potential-induced degradation (PID) or hotspots — can be identified early through monitoring data analysis and thermal imaging. Early detection preserves warranty claim eligibility.

Warranty and compliance

Manufacturer warranties typically require evidence of regular maintenance. KLY Energy maintains comprehensive records of all inspections, faults and remedial work — providing the documentation needed to support warranty claims and demonstrate regulatory compliance.

Suitability

Best for

Operations and maintenance is relevant to any commercial solar installation — whether newly commissioned or already in operation. KLY Energy provides O&M for systems installed by us and for existing installations originally delivered by other providers.

  • New installationsseamless transition from commissioning into ongoing monitoring and maintenance
  • Existing systemstake over monitoring and maintenance of systems originally installed by another provider
  • Multi-site portfolioscentralised monitoring and reporting across multiple locations
  • PPA and funded systemsmaintenance programmes that satisfy funding partner requirements

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Industry best practice recommends a full physical inspection at least once per year for commercial solar installations. This includes visual checks of panels, wiring, mounting systems and inverters, as well as thermal imaging to detect hotspots and connection faults. Higher-risk environments — such as coastal sites, industrial areas with airborne particulates, or systems with bird-nesting issues — may benefit from twice-yearly inspections. Between inspections, remote monitoring provides continuous oversight of system performance.
